Infrastructure Engineer – AI Platform - Remote

Overview

OpenVPN is building out AI tooling across the organization, but the infrastructure, governance, and operational patterns around it don't exist yet. This is a greenfield ownership role. You won't be inheriting a playbook — you'll be writing it. You'll define the architectural standards, establish the governance frameworks, and build the platform layer from the ground up: developer tooling, internal AI-powered workflows, and the cloud infrastructure (Vertex AI, etc.) that supports it all. If it touches AI at OpenVPN, it runs through you.

In Short

• Own the rollout and operational management of AI-assisted development tools.
• Define and implement access controls and usage policies.
• Build cost tracking and reporting for AI tool spend.
• Partner with teams to build internal AI applications.
• Advise on data governance policies for LLM usage.
• Manage AI/ML infrastructure on GCP (Vertex AI).
• Implement cost management controls for AI infrastructure.
• Communicate with leadership about AI investments.
• Evaluate tooling and frameworks for organizational needs.
• Establish governance frameworks for AI tooling.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with AI/ML infrastructure management.
• Experience setting up AI developer tooling at the organizational level.
• Fluency in Infrastructure as Code, particularly with Terraform.
• Ability to work across teams and define new capability areas.
• Clear communication skills regarding cost and risk.
