Overview

The National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) is inviting former federal government civil rights attorneys to apply for short-term Senior Legal Fellowships to support its Public Education Defense Fund (EDF) aimed at protecting student civil rights.

In Short

  • Short-term (4-6 month) fellowship for former federal civil rights attorneys.
  • Support EDF's mission to protect and advance student civil rights.
  • Collaborate on public education advocacy and legal strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of civil rights guidance and assessment tools.
  • Assist in creating a Student Pro Bono Defense Network.
  • Help track and report educational civil rights data.
  • Engage with a network of senior education and civil rights experts.
  • Fellowship compensation of $12,500 per month for up to 6 months.
  • Applications due by August 1, 2025.
  • Fellowships begin on October 1, 2025.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for individuals who have served as attorneys in federal civil rights positions.
  • Experience in protecting student civil rights is encouraged.
  • Proposals should include a statement of interest and relevant skills.
  • Resume/CV and two references required.
  • Expectations for career transition support during the fellowship.
