Software Engineer - Remote

Overview

Are you looking to make an impact? We are looking for a Software Engineer to support the VA. In this position, you will be working in a small, cross-functional team of Human-Centered Design practitioners to understand and synthesize customer needs, strategize improved service delivery, and design innovative solutions built on SaaS and PaaS products for the VA: Health and Benefits mobile app. If you have experience driving the product life cycle from proof of concept to product road mapping and execution and you've helped bridge gaps between customers and interdisciplinary teams, we’d love to hear from you.

In Short

• Support the VA with innovative software solutions.
• Work in a cross-functional team focused on human-centered design.
• Drive product life cycle from concept to execution.
• Anticipate approximately 10% travel.
• Build and scale a Ruby on Rails backend service.
• Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with teams to improve workflows.
• Monitor and optimize system performance.
• Participate in code reviews and discussions.
• Mentor other teams on CI/CD best practices.

Requirements

• 3+ years in an agile software development environment.
• Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails; React Native experience is a plus.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and backend/mobile applications.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Experience with API design patterns and versioning.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks.
• Git workflows and feature branch development practices.
• Government experience is a plus.
