Overview

A pioneering initiative founded in 2015 that works to increase awareness and participation of people of African descent in Wikimedia and free knowledge movements. Through monthly multilingual editathons and partnerships with cultural institutions, libraries, museums, universities, and international organizations including the United Nations, they have sensitized thousands about free culture crowdsourcing and worked to close multicultural and gender gaps in Wikipedia. They hold regular events globally and welcome participants of all experience levels.

In Short

• Assist with annual grant renewal applications
• Refine and enhance grant proposals with strong writing skills
• Identify new grant opportunities of various sizes
• Research potential funders and their priorities
• Maintain consistent organizational voice across proposals
• Ensure timely submission of all materials by March deadlines
• Track and manage grant renewal calendar
• Collaborate with leadership on financial planning
• Work independently with minimal supervision
• Flexible working hours within EST business hours

Requirements

• Demonstrated grant writing or proposal development experience
• Strong research skills for identifying funding opportunities
• Excellent writing and editing abilities
• Experience with deadline-driven projects
• Knowledge of or interest in digital inclusion, free knowledge movements, or cultural heritage
