The Medical Coder at ScionHealth is responsible for coding medical records accurately, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing support to hospital staff regarding medical documentation.

In Short

• Codes medical records using ICD-9-CM and other coding systems.
• Ensures accurate assignment of DRG codes.
• Communicates with hospital staff regarding coding queries.
• Enters diagnostic codes into an automated system.
• Complies with internal procedures for regulatory compliance.
• Reports coding discrepancies to management.
• Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with company standards.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient and employee information.
• Abstracts and retrieves medical data for evaluation and research.
• Promotes adherence to company policies and compliance agreements.

Requirements

• Knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems.
• Ability to understand and code medical records.
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Exceptional organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Fluent in English.
• Good attendance record.
• High School diploma required; college degree preferred.
• AHIMA CCS certification preferred.
• 3 years of coding experience required.
