Virtual Patient Educator - Remote

Overview

The Virtual Patient Educator's job is to teach patients through virtual platforms in a way that is accurate, clear, and caring. This job helps patients understand their health conditions, treatment plans, medications, and care pathways, while also encouraging them to follow through with their plans, stay engaged, and improve their overall health literacy.

In Short

• Teach patients about their health through video calls, phone calls, and secure digital platforms
• Use approved materials to teach patients and their caregivers about disease states, treatment options, medications, and care plans.
• Reinforce care instructions, follow-up requirements, and self-management strategies
• Record patient interactions correctly in electronic health records (EHR) or patient management systems.
• Check to see if the patient understands and change the way you teach to fit their needs and learning styles.
• Work with healthcare providers, nurses, and care teams to make sure that care is always available.
• Follow HIPAA, your organization's rules, and any other rules that apply to you.
• Answer patients' questions in a timely, professional, and caring way.
• Take part in ongoing training, quality assurance reviews, and efforts to improve performance.
• Help with educational campaigns, outreach programs, and patient engagement programs as needed.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in health education, nursing, public health, health sciences, or a related field (or the same amount of work experience)
• At least 2 to 4 years of experience in patient education, healthcare support, care coordination, or a similar job
• A lot of knowledge about healthcare terms and the best ways to teach patients
• Great skills in both speaking and writing
• Ability to teach patients from a distance using virtual tools and technology
• Good at organizing things and paying attention to details
• Being able to use electronic health records (EHR) and Microsoft Office or a similar system well
