Overview

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer who can lead the modernization of critical legacy systems across our platform. This role goes beyond feature development—it’s about taking a strategic, first-principles approach to rebuilding foundational services that support genomics workflows, AI-powered literature mining, and curated variant data pipelines.

In Short

Own the analysis, design, and technical execution of key system modernizations
Extract functional requirements from legacy code with high technical debt
Design and implement new systems using first principles and modern cloud-native architecture
Use AI tooling to accelerate safe, maintainable code generation
Collaborate closely with product, data science, and engineering
Mentor engineers on best practices
Evaluate and integrate open-source or off-the-shelf tools
Contribute to engineering roadmap and long-term technical strategy

Requirements

8+ years of software engineering experience
Proven success in system modernization and legacy refactoring
Strong backend development skills in Python, Ruby, Go, or C++
Experience with PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch
Proficiency in AWS and Docker
Familiarity with orchestration tools like Dagster or Airflow
Exposure to frontend technologies like ReactJS
Comfort with Git and CI/CD pipelines
Effective use of AI coding tools in real-world development
Excellent communication skills
