Overview

The Legal Strategist role at FILE focuses on leveraging legal expertise to impact climate, nature, and justice priorities in Africa, collaborating with various stakeholders.

In Short

Remote working opportunity based in Kenya.
Full-time or part-time position.
Focus on climate, nature, and justice priorities in Africa.
Develop and maintain partnerships with African legal practitioners.
Support grant-making processes and manage relationships with grantees.
Engage with civil society and legal networks across Africa.
Contribute to strategic analysis and advocacy efforts.
Promote environmental and climate justice.
Travel required approximately four times a year.
Strong commitment to community rights and legal strategies.

Requirements

Law degree from an African university preferred.
Experience in legal practice in Africa.
Knowledge of environmental and climate governance.
Experience in grant management is a plus.
Ability to work with diverse partners and perspectives.
Strong communication skills in English; proficiency in Kiswahili or another African language is advantageous.
Project management experience.
Willingness to work flexible hours across time zones.
Commitment to climate justice and community rights.
