Overview

Earthjustice seeks a senior attorney to join the National Climate team to advance rules, policies, and decisions to limit and prevent the federal permitting of climate-damaging infrastructure projects across the country. The position will focus primarily on litigation and advocacy to prevent federal permitting of fossil fuel projects like gas pipelines and liquefied natural gas export terminals.

In Short

  • Develop, lead, and conduct complex litigation in federal courts.
  • Supervise advocacy before agencies, state and local governments, and courts.
  • Manage litigation matters from start to finish.
  • Develop and execute non-litigation advocacy strategies.
  • Conduct factual investigations and develop legal theories.
  • Supervise Associate Attorneys, Paralegals, and Law Clerks.
  • Manage relationships with co-counsel and clients.
  • Serve as spokesperson for Earthjustice and clients.
  • Participate in long-term planning and strategy development.
  • Foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an ABA accredited law school.
  • A minimum of eight years of relevant litigation and advocacy experience.
  • Admitted to the bar of the state in which they reside.
  • Knowledge of environmental and administrative law.
  • Experience as lead counsel in federal appellate litigation is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills for media advocacy.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work with technical experts.
  • Ability to develop partnerships with community groups.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for case work.
