Overview

Earthjustice’s Biodiversity Defense Program is accepting applications for one full- or part-time legal extern for fall 2025. We are seeking law students who share a passion for justice and a healthy environment, and who are eligible to receive academic credit or fulfill a graduation requirement through this externship.

In Short

  • Work under the supervision of an attorney.
  • Contribute legal research and writing for the Biodiversity Defense Program.
  • Must be enrolled as a 2L or 3L law student during fall 2025.
  • Eligible for academic credit or graduation requirement fulfillment.
  • Excellent writing, research, analytical, and organizational skills required.
  • Familiarity with legal research tools, including Westlaw.
  • Interest in environmental and administrative law is a plus.
  • Commitment of 37.5 hours per week for full-time or at least 12 hours per week for part-time.
  • Unpaid position.
  • Applications due by May 9, 2025.

Requirements

  • Must be a law student (2L or 3L).
  • Strong work ethic and ability to think creatively.
  • Ability to work independently and collegially.
  • Knowledge of environmental law is beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must submit a resume and cover letter.
  • Provide a writing sample.
  • Submit references upon request.
