Overview

The NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) seeks a Director of Communications to manage its communications unit, ensuring effective outreach and public information strategies.

In Short

• Manage the Press Office and communications staff.
• Create and implement outreach strategies.
• Coordinate communication with stakeholders and media.
• Ensure public communication aligns with the Department's mission.
• Develop internal communication strategies.
• Prepare senior management for media interactions.
• Oversee public responses to emergencies.
• Serve as a liaison to the Mayor’s Office of Communications.
• Coordinate special projects like safety campaigns.
• Eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field.
• Four years of experience in communications or public relations.
• At least two years in a managerial or supervisory role.
• Juris doctor degree with equivalent experience is acceptable.
• Baccalaureate degree with six years of relevant experience is also acceptable.
