Linux System Engineer - Remote

Overview

We are looking for a Linux System Engineer to help manage, maintain, and evolve our Linux-based in-store systems. This role combines deep Linux expertise with hands-on experience in packaging, troubleshooting, and device monitoring, while also leveraging web development skills to support interactive and dynamic menu board experiences.

In Short

• Design, package, and distribute software for Linux-based Digital Menu Board (DMB) devices.
• Troubleshoot system-level issues to ensure device stability and uptime.
• Manage and optimize graphical systems and desktop environments.
• Collaborate with frontend and backend teams for dynamic menu board features.
• Implement and maintain monitoring solutions for device performance.
• Contribute to the security and update processes for in-store Linux devices.
• Work 100% remotely.
• Salary range is $80,000 to $100,000.
• Flexible working hours until 5:00 PM EST.
• Comfortable with a permanent work-from-home arrangement.

Requirements

• 4–8 years of professional experience in Linux systems engineering.
• Strong expertise in Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) and package management.
• Hands-on experience creating packages for distribution.
• Direct experience with on-premises, distributed physical devices.
• Familiarity with Linux logging and troubleshooting tools.
• Working knowledge of Linux graphical subsystems and desktop environments.
• Some frontend and backend web development experience.
• Experience with monitoring tools and building custom metrics.
• Flexibility to work until 5:00 PM EST.
• Comfortable with a BYOD setup.
