Overview

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for all payroll activities including year-end activities, reporting, and reconciliation, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and accuracy in payroll processing.

In Short

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for employees and Council members.
  • Handle year-end payroll activities and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal legislation.
  • Administer employee and employer contributions to pension plans.
  • Manage benefits administration and coverage changes.
  • Prepare reports for audits and management.
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll information.
  • Work with financial applications, including Workday Payroll.
  • Assist with annual audits.
  • Stay updated on payroll and benefits-related issues.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-year college certificate in Finance or Accounting.
  • 4 years of payroll experience in an automated environment.
  • Certified Payroll Manager or Payroll Compliance Practitioner required.
  • Experience with large accounting systems.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of Income Tax legislation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Experience working with senior management and stakeholders.
