Underwriting Supervisor - Remote

Overview

The Underwriting Supervisor manages the Underwriting production staff. This role is responsible for planning, organizing and managing the day-to-day functions of assigned underwriters and underwriting assistants. Additionally, this role is responsible for establishing policies and standards for work assigned to the Underwriting department, responsible for productivity and quality for assigned staff and providing guidance and support for staff development Lastly, this role will make recommendations for underwriting and operational improvements.

In Short

• Hire, train, counsel, and coach assigned personnel.
• Responsible for performance reviews, salary reviews and recommendations.
• Develop specific, measurable performance goals.
• Ensure adherence to Underwriting philosophy.
• Review claims referrals for coverage issues.
• Conduct audits for Underwriting units.
• Research and prepare responses for complaints.
• Review workflows and recommend changes.
• Serve as intermediary in disputes.
• Ensure compliance with Underwriting rules.

Requirements

• College degree or 5+ years work experience with an insurance company.
• 3 years’ experience in Underwriting or relevant work experience.
• Prior experience managing personnel is preferable.
• Cross functional insurance experience is preferable.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated project management experience.
