Sensor Fusion Engineer - Remote

Overview

Armaments Research Company (ARC) is a startup dedicated to bringing real time situational awareness and battlefield logistics capabilities to both the DoD and law enforcement personnel. You will be an integral part of the ARC team, and will be creating innovative and powerful IoT devices that feed data to the ARC technology stack. Our core offering is an embedded device designed in-house that pushes real time data to the cloud and back down to tactical users on a mobile android device. The information our device provides enables battlefield/tactical awareness that does not exist today. ARC technologies were initially developed in support of the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) and leverage internet-of-things (IoT) technology and machine learning (ML) to develop actionable insights and transform security responses.

In Short

• Develop and refine sensor fusion algorithms to estimate 3D orientation.
• Model sensor characteristics, including bias drift and noise.
• Characterize and mitigate distortions in magnetometer data.
• Implement sensor calibration procedures and real-time correction techniques.
• Analyze raw IMU data to improve accuracy and reduce drift.
• Collaborate with embedded software engineers to deploy algorithms.
• Design and run experiments to validate performance.
• Assist with data collection and performance reporting.
• Document algorithm design and implementation details.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical field.
• Strong understanding of 3D coordinate systems and linear algebra.
• Experience with Kalman filters and non-linear state estimation.
• Proficient in scientific computing tools like Python or MATLAB.
• Familiarity with sensor noise modeling and statistical filtering.
• Understanding of DC magnetism and magnetic interference.
