Archives Internship - Spring 2026 - Remote

Overview

The Whitney's Academic Year Internship program offers a semester-long paid internship for undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in an accredited academic program. The internship is hybrid, with some onsite work.

• Internship for Spring 2026 with a commitment of 16-21 hours per week.
• Assist with providing in-person and remote reference services.
• Supervise the reading room and on-site researchers.
• Handle reference inquiries from staff and external researchers.
• Page collections for researcher appointments.
• Digitize and prepare digital surrogates of archival material.
• Edit collection metadata using ArchivesSpace.
• Paid stipend of $3000 for the internship.
• Training provided in DACS and ArchivesSpace.
• Experience with multiple areas of archives and library work.

Requirements

• Coursework in library and information science, archives, or related field.
• Interest in modern and contemporary American art.
• Familiarity with archival finding aids.
• Knowledge of ArchivesSpace, MS Office, and Adobe Photoshop is a plus.
• Ability to work independently with attention to detail.
• Must be enrolled in an accredited academic program.
• Completed at least one year of academic coursework.
• Demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred.
• Previous museum experience is not required.
• Open to students in all majors.
