Small Business Insurance Underwriter - Remote

Overview

The Small Business Insurance Underwriter is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and underwriting commercial accounts—primarily small to mid-sized businesses. This role works closely with agents and clients to ensure accurate risk assessment, competitive pricing, and compliance with underwriting guidelines. The ideal candidate is ambitious looking for exposure to new areas that will strengthen their expertise.

• Evaluate, underwrite, and price new business submissions and renewals for small business accounts
• Analyze risk exposures, loss history, financial information, and coverage needs
• Determine appropriate coverage terms, limits, and premiums in line with carrier guidelines
• Communicate underwriting decisions clearly to agents and internal team members
• Collaborate with sales and service teams to resolve underwriting questions and support account retention
• Maintain accurate documentation and underwriting files
• Monitor renewals, endorsements, and policy changes
• Stay current on underwriting guidelines, market trends, and regulatory requirements

Requirements

• 3+ years of commercial or small business insurance underwriting experience
• Strong knowledge of common small business lines such as BOP, General Liability, Commercial Auto, and Workers’ Compensation
• Excellent analytical, decision-making, and organizational skills
• Ability to balance speed with accuracy in a deadline-driven environment
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
• Proficiency with agency management systems and Microsoft Office
• Industry designations a plus, but not required
