Overview

The Associate Curator works closely with the curatorial team, museum staff, faculty, students, and outside scholars to support the artistic vision of the Smart Museum of Art.

In Short

  • Contributes to research, planning, and organization of exhibitions and collections.
  • Engages with external stakeholders for access to collections information.
  • Supports the development of a dynamic schedule of exhibitions and commissions.
  • Researches, writes, and edits exhibition labels and didactics.
  • Provides educational talks and exhibition tours.
  • Assists with grant applications for exhibitions and programs.
  • Participates in training and supervision of student employees.
  • Supports marketing and public relations efforts for exhibitions.
  • Represents the Museum in academic and arts communities.
  • Coordinates fundraising efforts for museum programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum college or university degree in a related field.
  • 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
  • PhD/ABD in art history or related field strongly preferred.
  • Extensive curatorial experience.
  • Knowledge of museum best practices and trends.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Experience in public speaking and outreach.
  • Ability to manage and mentor staff in a diverse environment.
  • Strong writing skills for publications and digital content.
