Overview

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit-based team who supports the ongoing delivery of care to assigned patients in the Immediate Care Unit (F4) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). This role focuses on providing care for a wide variety of patient populations, primarily trauma and acute care surgery.

In Short

  • Work in a 30-bed blended ICU and Intermediate care unit.
  • Provide care for patients with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and surgical needs.
  • Communicate effectively with R.N.s and team members regarding patient care.
  • Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately and timely.
  • Participate in training programs including critical care and trauma nursing core certification.
  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.
  • Adhere to clinical programs, policies, and standards.
  • Work under the direct supervision of R.N.s.
  • Complete 5 weeks of training after being hired.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to follow oral instructions.
  • Basic computer skills and strong work ethics.
  • Preferred: Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.
  • Previous patient care experience in an acute care setting.
  • Critical care experience is a plus.
