Contract Analytical Data Engineer - Remote

Overview

The Motley Fool is looking for a Freelance Analytical Data Engineer to help us prototype and build a new data product powered by exhaust data. This is an independent contract role at 40 hours per week for at least 3 months, and is best suited for a mid-to-senior level engineer with 4–5+ years of relevant experience.

In Short

• Build focused data pipelines and processing workflows to support the new data product
• Query and analyze large datasets in Snowflake using SQL
• Debug and resolve data pipeline issues throughout the prototyping lifecycle
• Develop workflows using Airflow for data orchestration
• Design and prototype data products using internal exhaust/event data
• Package and deliver datasets via Snowflake shares, APIs, or other interfaces
• Ensure data quality, governance, and privacy requirements are met
• Implement data lineage and usage tracking
• Document architecture, schema definitions, and user-facing metadata
• Collaborate across product, data, and business to validate product direction

Requirements

• Strong experience building data pipelines, ideally with Snowflake and Airflow
• Experience with Snowflake Cortex and LLMs
• Proficiency in SQL, including multi-table joins and window functions
• Experience developing in Python for REST API ingestion
• Familiarity with AWS services including Lambda and S3
• Experience building and orchestrating pipelines in Airflow
• Experience with Snowflake external stages and RBAC
• Ability to work independently and communicate clearly
• Experience working with complex datasets
• Experience designing data products for external consumption
