Senior Backend Software Engineer (Go) - Remote

Overview

Join Surfshark’s VPN Engineering team as a Senior Back-end Engineer and help shape the orchestration layer of our next-generation networking platform. You’ll design and build control plane services in Go that securely manage thousands of workloads worldwide, driving APIs, rollouts, and health tracking at scale.

In Short

• Design and implement the control plane services in Go that manage workloads across a large fleet;
• Build APIs for configuration distribution, rollout coordination, and health tracking;
• Integrate with identity systems (OIDC, mTLS, token services) for secure bootstrap and operations;
• Work closely with other engineers to ensure smooth rollout waves, canary deployments, and automated recovery;
• Contribute to observability: exposing service metrics, building dashboards, setting up alerts;
• Participate in code reviews, system design, and long-term architecture planning.

Requirements

• Experience designing and operating distributed systems (control planes, schedulers, config management, etc.);
• Familiarity with authentication/authorization standards (OIDC, OAuth2, JWT, mTLS);
• Experience building APIs and working with manifest-driven or declarative configuration systems;
• Solid understanding of monitoring, metrics, and health-based rollouts.
