Overview

The Electronic Healthcare Application Architect is responsible for designing, documenting, and validating enterprise healthcare applications, with a strong focus on Electronic Health Records (EHR) and related systems. This role ensures system architecture aligns with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals. The Application Architect collaborates with IT, clinical, and business teams to create comprehensive technical documentation, define integration strategies, and validate system functionalities.

  • Design scalable and secure architectures for healthcare applications, including EHR, clinical, and ancillary systems.
  • Develop best practices for application development, integration, and interoperability.
  • Ensure system architectures comply with HIPAA, HITECH, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Guide teams on system design, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for EHR applications.
  • Create detailed functional and technical specifications for new and existing applications.
  • Validate system configurations against clinical and operational workflows.
  • Define and document integration architecture between EHR and third-party applications.
  • Collaborate with IT Security to enforce data protection and access control policies.
  • Provide technical leadership to developers and analysts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare IT application architecture, EHR systems, or enterprise healthcare applications.
  • Proficiency in application documentation methodologies, technical writing, and validation processes.
  • Experience with HL7, FHIR, APIs, and healthcare system integrations.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and HITRUST security frameworks.
  • Ability to create detailed technical diagrams, flowcharts, and architecture blueprints.
  • Strong experience in EHR platforms (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or similar).
  • Experience with ServiceNow, ITSM processes, and change management.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based healthcare architectures (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Healthcare APIs).
