Overview

The Pharmacy Intern supports the mission of the Pharmacy department by ensuring that the right patient receives the right medications in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist.

In Short

• Fills and delivers medications requested by nursing units.
• Assists IV Pharmacist in sterile compounding.
• Prepares chemotherapeutic agents using aseptic techniques.
• Assembles and prepares medications for unit dose prepackaging.
• Performs daily temperature checks of nursing unit refrigerators.
• Inventories and restocks supplies on shelves.
• Maintains proper licensure and educational requirements.
• Adheres to HIPAA regulations regarding confidentiality.
• Provides good customer service skills.
• Assists Pharmacist in gathering information for safe medication use.

Requirements

• High School diploma required.
• Enrollment in an accredited Pharmacy Program.
• Training as a Hospital Pharmacy Technician preferred.
• Must meet eligibility requirements for Massachusetts registration as a Pharmacy Intern.
• Familiarity with medical/drug terminology preferred.
• Ability to handle controlled substances appropriately.
• Demonstrated ability to walk and stand 70% of the time.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Adheres to department/hospital policies and procedures.
• Maintains equipment in safe working order.
