Overview

The Life Safety Engineer position involves inspecting medical and healthcare facilities to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.

In Short

  • Inspect medical and healthcare facilities for compliance with life safety standards.
  • Conduct initial and annual inspections, as well as triennial inspections for certain facilities.
  • Report findings to the Life Safety Supervisor and Section Chief.
  • Conduct hospital validation surveys and complaint investigations.
  • Travel up to four days a week throughout the state.
  • Knowledge of Life Safety Code and federal regulations required.
  • Experience with Aspen and iQIES systems preferred.
  • Document knowledge of architectural, electrical, and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Full-time position with benefits.
  • Work for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of Life Safety Code (NFPA 101).
  • Ability to travel and conduct inspections across the state.
  • Registration as a professional engineer may be required.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare facility compliance.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to public safety and service.
  • Background check may be required.
