Overview

Handshake is recruiting Commercial Pilots to contribute to an hourly, temporary AI research project—but there’s no AI experience needed. In this program, you’ll leverage your professional experience to evaluate what AI models produce in your field, assess content related to your field of work, and deliver clear, structured feedback that strengthens the model’s understanding of your workplace tasks and language. The Handshake AI opportunity runs year-round, with project opportunities opening periodically across different areas of expertise.

This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity that can be done alongside your primary employment.

In Short

  • The position is remote and asynchronous; work independently from wherever you are.
  • The hours are flexible, with no minimum commitment, but most average 5-20 hrs
  • The work includes developing prompts for AI models that reflect your field, and then evaluating responses.
  • You’ll learn new skills and contribute to how AI is used in your field
  • Your placement into a project will be dependent on project availability—if you apply now and can’t work on this project, more will be available soon.

Requirements

  • You have at least 4 years of professional experience in one or more of the following types of work.
  • The examples below reflect the types of real-world responsibilities that you might have had in your role that will give you the context needed to evaluate and train high-quality AI models

Use flight instrumentation to pilot aircraft when visibility is poor.
    • Monitor engine performance, fuel consumption, and aircraft systems during flight.
    • Order changes to fuel supplies, loads, routes, or schedules to maintain flight safety.
    • Communicate with control towers for takeoff clearances, arrival instructions, and operational information.
    • Plan flights in accordance with government and company regulations using aeronautical charts and navigation instruments.
    • Start engines, operate controls, and pilot aircraft to transport passengers, mail, or freight according to flight plans and procedures.
    • Verify that baggage and cargo are loaded correctly.
    • Review load weights, fuel levels, weather conditions, and schedules to determine flight plans and required adjustments.
    • Conduct in-flight tests and evaluations at various altitudes and weather conditions to assess equipment and system performance.
    • Select routes, altitudes, and speeds to ensure safe, efficient, and smooth flights.
    • Record flight information such as times, altitudes, and fuel consumption in flight logs.
    • Coordinate flight activities with ground crews and air traffic control, and brief crew members on procedures.
    • Perform minor aircraft maintenance and repairs, or arrange for major maintenance as needed.
    • Supervise and direct other crew members.
    • Request changes to altitudes or routes as conditions require.
    • File instrument flight plans with air traffic control to coordinate with other aircraft.
    • Rescue and evacuate injured persons when required.
    • Instruct pilots and student pilots in aircraft operations.
    • Evaluate pilot-license applicants by flying with them to assess proficiency.
    • Plan flight activities and test schedules and prepare flight evaluation reports.
    • Teach company regulations and procedures to other pilots.
    • Operate large-scale uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones for commercial purposes such as photography, surveying, or wildlife monitoring.
