Finance Associate (Accounting) - Remote

Overview

GiveDirectly (GD) aims to reshape international giving – and millions of lives – by providing cash grants directly to the world’s poorest. The Brookings Institution estimates that $70B of cash transfers would be required to eliminate the poverty gap; the aid sector currently spends $135B each year, much of it on evidence-free interventions. GiveDirectly wants to change that, establishing cash transfers as a benchmark for foreign aid – as the index fund is a benchmark for the financial industry – and in the process accelerating the end of extreme poverty.

In Short

• This role is remote, but candidates must be based in Nairobi, Kampala or Monrovia.
• The Finance Associate will support finance and accounting activities in eight countries in Africa.
• Document transactions in accordance with global bookkeeping standards.
• Ensure compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies.
• Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory filings.
• Implement asset management protocols.
• Assist in the preparation of budgets and monthly closing tasks.
• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or equivalent experience.
• 3 years of professional experience in accounting or finance is required.
• Professional certification (such as CPA/ACCA) is mandatory.

Requirements

• Working language competence in English; knowledge of French or Portuguese is a plus.
• Competence in Excel and financial accounting software (e.g., Intacct, QuickBooks).
• Strong analytical skills and solutions-oriented mindset.
• Ability to deliver high-quality accounting on tight deadlines.
• Organized and self-driven individual contributor.
