VDC Mechanical Designer - Remote

Overview

We are a U.S.-based construction company seeking a skilled and detail-oriented VDC Mechanical Designer to support our virtual design and construction (VDC) efforts. This is a remote, independent contractor role, where the ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and marking up HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with U.S. mechanical codes and industry standards.

• Mechanical System Design: Develop detailed HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system layouts, schematics, and mark-ups.
• BIM Coordination: Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam to create accurate 2D and 3D mechanical models, collaborating with engineers and contractors to resolve conflicts before construction.
• Pre-Construction Support: Work closely with U.S.-based project teams to provide mechanical design expertise, ensuring constructability and efficiency.
• Plan Review & Quality Control: Analyze mechanical plans, perform quality checks, and recommend improvements for compliance and efficiency.
• Load Calculations & Code Compliance: Perform HVAC load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, and equipment selection, ensuring designs comply with ASHRAE, NFPA, IMC, IPC, and local codes.
• Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical reports, submittals, and drawings for review and approval.
• Technical Collaboration: Coordinate with field engineers, project managers, and construction teams to provide ongoing design support.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience in VDC mechanical design, preferably for U.S. projects.
• Software Proficiency: Expertise in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or similar mechanical design tools.
• Code Knowledge: Strong understanding of ASHRAE, NFPA, IMC, IPC, and other U.S. mechanical codes.
• Communication Skills: Proficiency in English, with the ability to collaborate with U.S.-based teams.
• Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot design challenges and propose solutions.
• Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in drawings, calculations, and documentation.
• Remote Work Readiness: Reliable internet connection and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
