Overview

As a Controller & Client Accounting Advisor at Breakwater Accounting + Advisory, you will act as a strategic financial partner for independent schools and nonprofits, helping them understand and utilize their financials effectively.

• Serve as the strategic Controller and financial advisor for 10-20 independent schools or nonprofits.
• Prepare and present insights to Boards and Finance Committees.
• Lead monthly and quarterly conversations to turn financials into actionable insights.
• Identify risks and guide clients toward better financial decisions.
• Translate financial data into practical recommendations.
• Partner with clients on cash flow and profitability topics.
• Collaborate with your team to ensure accuracy in financial reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in accounting for Independent Schools.
• Experience in client advisory services is a plus.
• Experience with Veracross is required.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Self-starter with the ability to work remotely.
