Senior COBOL/ALC Developer - Remote

Overview

We are seeking a skilled COBOL/ALC Developer to join our software modernization development project team. This role focuses on analyzing, maintaining, and enhancing legacy mainframe systems while contributing to the transformation and migration of applications to modern platforms.

• Analyze, design, develop, test, and maintain complex legacy mainframe applications using COBOL and ALC.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the modernization and migration of existing applications to newer technologies.
• Conduct thorough analysis of legacy systems to identify functional components, dependencies, and technical challenges.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including code analysis reports and modernization roadmaps.
• Provide system optimization, troubleshooting, and support for production issues in mainframe environments.
• Participate in performance tuning, system integration testing, and quality assurance processes.
• Migrate data and programs while ensuring system stability, accuracy, and consistency during the modernization effort.
• Identify and resolve compatibility or performance issues between legacy and modernized systems.
• Adhere to coding standards, development best practices, and project timelines.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in COBOL development, with proven expertise in mainframe technologies.
• Strong hands-on experience with Assembler Language Code (ALC) in mainframe environments.
• Deep understanding of IBM z/OS, JCL, and other mainframe tools.
• Experience in system analysis, debugging, and troubleshooting legacy code.
• Familiarity with data formats such as VSAM, DB2, and flat files.
• Exposure to modernization projects, including migration to modern platforms.
• Knowledge of tools such as Endevor, CA7, IMS, CICS, or similar.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and analytical thinking.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
