Requirements

• Active nursing license (RN or LPN) or certified coder certification through AHIMA or AAPC.
• Minimum one year experience as a medical coder/abstractor.
• Extensive knowledge of ICD-9-CM outpatient diagnosis coding guidelines.
• Ability to code without an encoder.
• Strong clinical skills related to chronic illness management.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines (24-hour turnaround).
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Computer proficiency with MS Windows and Office.
• High-speed Internet access and a compatible home computer.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
