Overview

Agile Six is a people-first, remote-work company that serves shoulder-to-shoulder with federal agencies to find innovative, human-centered solutions. We build better by putting people first. We are animated by our core values of Purpose, Wholeness, Trust, Self-Management and Inclusion. We deliver our solutions in autonomous teams of self-managed professionals (no managers here!) who genuinely care about each other and the work. We know that’s our company’s purpose – and that we can only achieve it by supporting a culture where people feel valued, self-managed, and love to come to work.

The role

Agile Six is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join a newly formed team. In this role you will design and implement infrastructure-as-code, container orchestration, and deployment automations that power critical services. Day to day, you’ll craft cloud-native build, test, and release workflows that support goals for CI/CD automation, infrastructure, deployments, and security/compliance, embedding controls by default so teams can focus on shipping features. You’ll collaborate across the stack, contributing scripts, services, and documentation to shared repositories, while leveraging AI-powered tools such as GitHub Copilot and Cursor to accelerate delivery—always reviewing outputs for quality and security. Working closely with product, design, and engineering teammates, you’ll ensure DevSecOps work is visible in user stories and prioritized in the backlog. As the ecosystem evolves, you’ll continuously experiment with emerging cloud, AI, and automation technologies to keep systems resilient and developer-friendly.

Please note, this position is anticipated, pending contract award response.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain secure, scalable CI/CD pipelines that cover build, test, release, and rollback across multiple environments.
  • Define and manage IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.) for AWS resources; implement container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS) and Docker workflows.
  • Integrate automated security testing, SBOM generation, vuln scanning, and compliance reporting into every pipeline.
  • Monitor pipeline health and infrastructure performance; surface metrics that drive continuous improvement.
  • Write reusable scripts, components, and services following modern software-engineering best practices.
  • Advocate DevSecOps culture within the team—run demos, contribute to communities of practice, and assist with recruiting (code challenges, interviews).
  • Adapt responsibilities as project needs evolve; stay curious and keep learning.
  • Support the practice of engineering within the larger company as needed through activities such as:
    • Assisting in outreach, recruitment, and hiring efforts
    • Occasionally participating in or otherwise supporting business development efforts, including code or design challenges, writing or reviewing proposal responses, etc.
    • Participating in communities of practice
  • We expect the responsibilities of this position to shift and grow organically over time, in response to considerations such as the unique strengths and interests of the selected candidate and other team members and an evolving understanding of the delivery environment.

Basic qualifications

  • 8+ years as a software engineer with a primary focus on DevSecOps automation.
    • If you have a Bachelor’s degree, at least 4 years of experience are required. If you have a different degree (e.g., Associate’s or Master’s), let us know and we’ll adjust the experience requirement accordingly.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with AWS services and networking.
  • Proven use of IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) and orchestration tech (Kubernetes/EKS, Docker).
  • Deep understanding of DevOps best practices—CI/CD, automated testing, pipeline monitoring, and cultural evangelism.
  • Solid track record working on Agile teams and within open-source, collaborative environments.
  • Familiarity with AI tools/services and a willingness to apply them responsibly for better outcomes.
  • Has lived and worked in the United States for at least 3 of the last 5 years; able to travel occasionally if required.

Additional desired qualifications

  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Pro, DevOps Engineer Pro, SysOps Admin, Developer Associate).
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, and/or Ruby; experience with testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, Pytest).
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Web Design System and prior work with government agencies.
  • You are a U.S. Veteran. As a service-disabled veteran-owned small business, we recognize the transition to civilian life can be tricky, and welcome and encourage Veterans to apply.

Salary and Sixer Benefits

To promote pay equity, we publish salary ranges for each position. The salary for this position is $129,233.

Our benefits are designed to reinforce our core values of Wholeness, Self Management and Inclusion. The following benefits are available to all employees.
