Overview

The Licensed Plumber/Steamfitter is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing steam supply lines and related equipment within the hospital facilities, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

In Short

  • Install, maintain, and repair steam piping and related systems.
  • Monitor steam return systems for compliance with supplier standards.
  • Direct the work of assistants or apprentices.
  • Respond to emergency calls and off-shift problems.
  • Maintain accurate records of jobs completed.
  • Assist other trades as needed.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
  • Provide own hand tools for job performance.
  • Work in various conditions, including emergencies and overtime.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Completion of a three-year apprentice program in steam fitting.
  • Valid Massachusetts pipefitter’s license and Journeyman plumber license.
  • Five years of experience as a steamfitter.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Knowledge of steam loads and piping materials.
  • Ability to communicate through drawings and sketches.
  • Physical ability to carry tools and lift heavy equipment.
  • Compliance with hospital safety and confidentiality protocols.
  • Ability to work overtime and respond to emergencies.
