Overview

The Vera Institute of Justice and CUNY Graduate Center invite applications for Summer Fellows who will be based in Vera’s New York City office. These $4,000 fellowships will be offered to Graduate Center Ph.D. students from any program with research interests in criminal or immigration justice and the work of the Vera Institute.

In Short

  • Collaborate with researchers on specific projects.
  • Engage in data collection, analysis, and fieldwork.
  • Write reports and engage with stakeholders.
  • Work onsite for at least 60 hours in Brooklyn.
  • Attend a welcome reception and present work at the end of the summer.
  • Fellowship spans 120 hours over the summer of 2025.
  • Projects available in various initiatives related to criminal justice.
  • Open to Graduate Center Ph.D. students from diverse academic backgrounds.
  • Flexible working hours to accommodate personal and academic schedules.
  • Application deadline is February 16, 2025.

Requirements

  • Graduate Center Ph.D. student.
  • Research interests in criminal or immigration justice.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative methods preferred.
  • Coding skills in R, Stata, or Python preferred.
  • Interest in the immigration system in the U.S.
  • Experience with mixed methods is a plus.
  • Commitment to racial justice and equity.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Willingness to learn design and data visualization tools.
