The Center for Coastal Futures & Adaptive Resilience (CFAR) is a newly established entity at Rice University, launched in 2024 within the School of Social Sciences. CFAR focuses on integrating social scientific research to enhance adaptive resilience in coastal areas, particularly in Houston and the Gulf region. By leveraging diverse methodological expertise from various disciplines, CFAR aims to address pressing climate challenges and promote just and equitable futures. The center's research areas include Coastal Industrial Communities, Urban Infrastructure Futures, Climate Adaptation, and Disaster Recovery & Resilience, fostering collaboration among academic researchers and community partners.
