System Security Engineer - Remote

Overview

The Systems Security Engineer – SME & Team Lead is a key member of the new Versant Cyber organization responsible for leading a small team of engineers while contributing hands-on to the design, implementation, and operations of security controls.

In Short

• Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for systems security across enterprise platforms.
• Lead and mentor a team of security engineers.
• Implement and manage security technologies such as firewalls and SIEM.
• Oversee security of operating systems and container environments.
• Establish and enforce system hardening standards and patch management.
• Drive improvements in identity and access management.
• Lead monitoring, detection, and incident response efforts.
• Direct vulnerability scanning and penetration testing support.
• Provide technical leadership for cloud and hybrid security.
• Collaborate with IT and application teams to embed security into projects.

Requirements

• BS in Computer Science or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in systems/infrastructure security.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a security role.
• Proven ability to mentor junior engineers.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Solid IT engineering experience with exposure to cloud technologies.
• Expertise in configuring corporate edge firewalls.
• Deep understanding of email and network-based threats.
• Knowledge of compliance requirements and security frameworks.
• Proficiency in scripting languages.
