Overview

The Prior Authorization Pharmacist is a vital member of the pharmacy department, responsible for evaluating prior authorizations, providing drug therapy management, and serving as a resource for drug information.

In Short

• Evaluate prior authorizations for drug appropriateness.
• Provide cost-effective drug therapy and disease state management.
• Deliver excellent customer service to health plan clients and practitioners.
• Act as an educational resource for drug and clinical information.
• Perform case reviews and Peer-to-Peer reviews.
• Monitor prescription turnaround times.
• Assist in implementing process improvements.
• Communicate proactively with team members and supervisors.
• Recognize and recommend operational improvements.
• Participate in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Strong drug knowledge and evaluation skills.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• High competency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Experience in Pharmacy Benefit Management preferred.
• PharmD and pharmacist license in good standing required.
• Willingness to obtain additional state licensure.
• Minimum two years of experience as a pharmacist preferred.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Excellent critical thinking capabilities.
