Overview

The Captive Animal Law Enforcement (CALE) division of the PETA Foundation’s legal department is seeking a licensed veterinarian with captive wildlife experience to join our multidisciplinary team of lawyers, veterinarians, captive wildlife specialists, and other professionals working to end the exploitation of wild animals in roadside zoos, circuses, and other traveling shows.

In Short

  • Join a team working to end the exploitation of wild animals.
  • Investigate and advise on cases of animal abuse and neglect.
  • Travel to assess conditions of at-risk animals.
  • Conduct research and draft materials for animal protection campaigns.
  • Develop relationships with veterinary and animal welfare experts.
  • Mobilize PETA members regarding issues affecting captive animals.
  • Advise on animal abuse cases for other departments as needed.
  • Monitor legislative efforts to improve conditions for captive animals.
  • Present PETA's positions to the media.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medical and welfare issues affecting captive animals.
  • Exceptional writing and research skills.
  • Excellent proofreading and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work.
  • Professional appearance and public-speaking skills.
  • Willingness to travel on occasion.
