As a shaping force in German consumer protection, we develop structures, build trust, and promote sustainable change for the common good. Our communication combines strategic clarity with social responsibility, giving consumer-relevant topics weight in public, economic, and political arenas.

As the Chief Communications Officer (m/f/d), you will help strengthen the position of Bundesverbraucherhilfe e.V., make messages visible, and bring our mission to life – for consumers, society, and the future.

Important: This position is voluntary and not subject to social insurance. It offers you the opportunity to take on responsibility as the Head of Communication, set impulses, and actively shape the communication architecture of an organization with nationwide significance.

In Short

  • Responsible for the entire external communication of Bundesverbraucherhilfe e.V.
  • Develop a strategic communication line for all channels (press, website, social media, events)
  • Build media contacts and maintain a network with journalists, editorial offices, multipliers, and partners
  • Write and edit press releases, statements, guest contributions, and position papers
  • Advise the board on communicative positioning and develop core messages
  • Ensure a consistent brand and image language
  • Develop a communication strategy (nonprofit members, economic units)
  • Support the establishment of an editorial system (e.g., for newsletters, reports, website content)

Requirements

  • Completed studies in communication, journalism, media management, or political science
  • Several years of experience in press and public relations, ideally in an association, NGO, or company
  • Outstanding language skills, text security, and the ability to communicate complex content precisely and media-appropriately
  • Experience in dealing with media representatives as well as crisis and positioning communication
  • Strategic thinking, organizational skills, and a good sense of public impact
  • Willingness to contribute structurally and conceptually in a team with high personal responsibility
