Technical Associate Director, Flooding, Planning, and Resilience - Remote

Overview

We are seeking a strategic and analytical professional with regional and/or natural hazards planning expertise to join our growing organization. In this role, you will help shape state-level resilience programs and contribute technical expertise to policy models that can be scaled across different state and local contexts. This highly collaborative position spans policy development and implementation, external engagement, and internal capacity-building.

In Short

• Support AFC’s long-term strategy for scalable flood resilience solutions.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in state-level flood resilience policies.
• Lead policy development translating technical insights into strategies.
• Represent AFC in engagements and communicate planning frameworks.
• Contribute to internal capacity-building and mentoring junior staff.
• Ensure timely project delivery aligned with strategic objectives.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in flood resilience or regional planning.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state resilience landscape.
• Applied experience with resilience strategies in planning.
• Ability to distill complex concepts into practical insights.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience in organizational strategic planning is a plus.
• Experience in policy development/implementation is a plus.
• Certification such as AICP or CFM is a plus.
